Chocolate River Tour
Sail with us on this exclusive chocolate tour!
From cacao to chocolate
The Zaan region was the first industrial area in the world. In this part of the Netherlands wood, oil, paint, flour, paper and dozens of other products were
processed as early as in the 16 th century. In 1730 even over 600 windmills were operational at the same time. Most windmills were replaced by factories in de 19th century.
Cocoa has always been a very important part of the growth of the industry in the Zaan region. At first with windmills and later on in factories, cocoa was converted into chocolate here.
Navigate trough history
The Chocolate River boat navigates you right through this history. As you pass the factories and windmills standing along the river Zaan and enjoy wonderful stories and several tastings lead by a chocolate sommelier, the history of cocoa and chocolate comes to life.
The chocolate experts of the CacaoLab will take care of the tasting and the accompanying stories during the Chocolate River Tour. The CacaoLab itself is the best place for quality chocolate and the best Dutch chocolate milk. Therefore, before the Chocolate River Tour, we recommend you to visit the CacaoLab. Participants of the Chocolate River Tour can pick up a free chocolate milk (1 drink per ticket) on presentation of their ticket.
Adress The Cacaolab: The CacaoLab is located at Kalverringdijk 25 at Zaandaam and is open from 10:00 – 17:00.
